Version 1.0.3 · Station Admin
A WordPress pair for one radio station that posts its shows on Mixcloud.
Use them together
Station Core and the SA Mixcloud Theme require each other. Turn on Station Core first, then turn on the SA Mixcloud Theme.
WordPress checks StationAdmin.Com for a newer copy of each one. When a newer copy is there, it is listed under Dashboard, then Updates. Updating leaves the station name, shows, and schedule in place.
Station Core keeps the station’s settings, pulls the shows from Mixcloud, stores the schedule, and sends contact messages. The theme draws the public pages and the player window. With only the plugin, the dashboard still works, but visitors do not get these pages. With only the theme, the pages appear, but there are no shows to list, the live switch cannot turn on, and the contact form cannot send a message.
Install
- Download SA-Mixcloud-1.0.3.zip and unzip it on your computer. Inside are
station-core.zip,station.zip, and a short guide. - In WordPress, open Plugins, Add Plugin, Upload Plugin. Choose
station-core.zip, then turn on Station Core. - Open Appearance, Themes, Add Theme, Upload Theme. Choose
station.zip, then turn on the SA Mixcloud Theme. - Do not upload the outer zip into WordPress.
- Open Station. Enter the Mixcloud username, save, and click Sync now.
Needs WordPress 6.4 or later (tested to 7.1) and PHP 8.0 or later.
Station screen
After both are on, open Station in the dashboard.
- Set the station name, tagline, and the email address that receives contact messages. That address is not shown on the public site.
- Enter the Mixcloud username, save, and click Sync now. New shows are added. A show already on the site is updated when its title, description, picture, or tags change on Mixcloud. If you change the username, shows from the previous username come off the public site. If Mixcloud has no account by that name, those old shows come off too. They stay in the Trash. The plugin does not upload audio.
- Turn on “We are live on Mixcloud right now” when a broadcast starts, and turn it off when it ends. Mixcloud does not tell the site by itself, so this switch stays manual. The same switch is in the top bar while you are logged in.
- Show or hide the Schedule item in the public menu.
- Add profile links for Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, SoundCloud, Mixcloud, Twitch, and X. A blank link stays hidden. If the Mixcloud box is empty, the username above fills that link.
Public pages
The theme draws Home, Blog, Mixcloud Shows, Schedule, Contact, About, and a live page. The first time it is turned on, it creates those starter pages. If WordPress is still using plain addresses, it switches them to the Post name style, such as /about/. An address style already chosen is left as it is. Home, About, and blog posts are edited as normal WordPress pages. The header, menu, shows, schedule, and footer stay as the theme draws them.
- The home page shows the station name, tagline, the text from the Home page, the latest shows, and blog posts.
- Each show card shows the picture from Mixcloud, the date, and the length. A click opens a small player window. One window is shared: starting another show, or the live broadcast, replaces what was playing.
- The last card in the home show grid says “Click Me for All Shows.” It uses the station’s own show picture and opens the full list. That full list includes every show.
- Under Appearance, then Customize, then Shows, choose whether the latest shows appear on the home page, how many sit in a row (1 to 6), and how many rows (1 to 6). A phone shows one show across. The full Mixcloud Shows page ignores those numbers.
- Under Blog posts, show or hide posts on the home page, place them above or below the shows, and choose a vertical list or cards. Cards have a number per row and a number of rows. The Blog page still lists every post.
- Under Colors, pick Night red, Night blue, Night green, Night gold, or Daylight. Section headings use the same color as the station name.
- When the live switch is on, a note at the top of every page says the station is live. A click opens the broadcast in a player window.
- The schedule is a week of slots. Each slot can have a day, a start and end time, a DJ name, and a picture.
- The contact page has a form. Messages go to the email on the Station screen.
- The footer shows the station name, and an optional line, Theme by StationAdmin.Com. A station may remove that credit.
